CBUG ADVOCACY:

Cairns has a proud history of bicycle advocacy. Constant attendance at meetings whenever they occur at our local council and public consultations, inspecting plans of Main Roads upgrade projects, nominating Black Spot Funding and achieving ongoing shoulder sealing of our highways. Representation and submissions for the development of National, State and Local Bicycle Strategies. State funds are continually being approved and are waiting on the Cairns City Council to approve their 50%. The Holloways Beach to Machans Beach foot bridge has been cancelled and was the start of the Cairns to Buchan Point bikeway that will link all the northern beaches. The strategy needs to proceed with a balanced approach. Funds are needed for the shoulder sealing of bike lanes on our local roads with sealed shoulders on only one side of the road a safety issue. The Cairns Bikeway Strategy documents road works as well as foot bridges and paths which create two networks of bike routes, bike lanes and bike paths for people of all ages, speed and ability.
